Staying up to date! Four letter domain addiction!
Jan 28

Even though four letter domains are a relatively small niche there is still masses of information to take in on a daily basis. Searching the many buying venues for savvy purchase options, reading as many quad letter domain news sites as possible and browsing domain forums until the early hours of the morning.

So what is it that I have gained so far from focusing on this particular niche? Exactly that - focus. When I originally started out three or four years ago, as with any person new to an industry I found it difficult to look in the right places, make educated buying decisions and even offer sound advice. I have to admit that writing this blog has been the best way for me to focus. It has helped me retain a catalogue of LLLL.com events and milestones and form a basis for the knowledge I have collected since day one.

Even so there is still room for doubts, or on the flip side, great fantasies of what will eventually happen in the future. Boom or bust. Will I, in a years time, be sitting on a four letter domain portfolio worth $200k+? This is certainly the idea! A nice solid investment and one that will only appreciate with time. There is, however, always a hint of doubt that I may have stumbled onto the wrong track. Come October 2008 will the thousands of four letter domains scheduled to drop due to pre-buyout feeding frenzy be too much for such a new emerging market. Will this decrease the value of all LLLL.com portfolios including my own? Questions that can only be answered in a years time when it happens in reality.

I have to admit, I have been a bit lazy of late when it comes to listing my recent purchases on Sedo. I convince myself that I just don’t have the time to change the DNS settings of multiple domains across multiple registrars and end up spending what time I have each evening submitting offers for yet more four letter domains to await the reactions of their owners the next morning. Will I get a good responce and have the opportunity to buy a true CVCV quad premium domain below market value? Its happened before, why not again?

There is still much friction between domainers when the phrase LLLL.net is mentioned. Its almost certain that its going to be at least two years before anyone will see a good ROI for any LLLL.net domains. Many domainers are saying that those investing now in premium LLLL.nets are foolish. Did they say that to those that invested in premium LLLL.com’s back in 2005? Do they wish they had invested in a few when the time was right? I certainly do.

The problem I have now is limited funds. I can’t seem to sustain my four letter domain buying addiction! Back in November 2007 it was easy buying up four letter domains for $5-$15 each. Now its difficult to buy the worst for less than $45. Bulk buys are becoming difficult. Even now I look back and wish I had bought more when I could.

So the point of this post? Just a way of clearing my head and airing some thoughts. I hope that later this year the value of my portfolio will have increased beyond my own expectations. I’m such an an impatient person that I want to know right now what it will be worth this time next year!

Will we all be looking back and quoting hindsight, shaking our heads and asking each other why did we invest? Or will we be looking back at those that didn’t and laughing all the way to the bank? I certainly hope its the later! Here’s to a solid sustainable market and a $100 minimum quad letter wholesale value by the end of February this year for all, and thats including the good, the bad and the damn right ugly!
