Month in review - May 2008 CVCV.net’s proving to be a solid investment!

Somehow I missed the Sedo auction for sumo.com at the end of May but if I missed it you may have missed it too so here’s the article about a true dictionary generic with just one meaning: A Japanese form of wrestling.  Although an excellent sale this isn’t a ‘four letter domain’ as we know it and should be omitted from any four letter domain sales report data.

Originally registered on the 12th December 1994 this domain certainly has plenty of history. Archieve.org shows some interesting results. Its first use was in 1998 as a website for a company called ‘Sumo Information Technology’ an “enterprise solution provider focusing on high-end custom software development”.

In 1999 it was used for a website selling mobile phones but sadly in 2001 it was parked and has remained dormant for the past 7 years as many quality generics do.

It will be interesting to see what this domain is used for in the future though, my guess is that its ear marked for a startup company wanting a strong brandable generic for a high paying market niche that has nothing to do with sumo wrestling.

The domain has a PageRank of 4 and recieves very little natural type in traffic so its sale was based purly on the merits of its generic nature. One to keep an eye on as domain parking certainly won’t pay for it so development plans must already be in place to begin covering costs.
