An auction for 4200 four letter domains was started today on Ebay. That works out at 0.92% of the entire LLLL.com market and is certaily a substantial amount of domains. Although a little out of date the current understood minimum wholesale value of a single four letter .com is $33. This puts the minimum wholesale value of this auction at $138,600! However a vast number of domains on offer are triple premiums which would push this valuation up to well over $200,000.
Once again there was plenty of interest in short domains last night at the Namepros live auction. Every collection of premium LLLL.nets received bids and sold! It was good to see them holding ground at a little over reg fee.
Despite prolonged opposition from quad letter domain pessimists, CVCV.net combinations are holding strong and selling for impressive figures. Evidence is stacking up against the naysayers that declare four letter .net domains have no future. Here are some recent sales figures: Continue reading »
Somehow I missed the Sedo auction for sumo.com at the end of May but if I missed it you may have missed it too so here’s the article about a true dictionary generic with just one meaning: “A Japanese form of wrestling.“ Although an excellent sale this isn’t a ‘four letter domain’ as we know it and should be omitted from any four letter domain sales report data.
I have decided to publish a month in review article at the end of every month to highlight exactly what has happened over the past thirty days or so. Throughout May it has been another interesting month in the quad letter domain marketplace and just in case you have missed some important articles here are ‘the best bits’.
I consistently encounter people who are unsure as to what certain descriptive groups of letters mean when looking to buy four letter domains. For this reason I have put together a glossary specifically for quad letter domains. I have added it as a new ‘page’ rather than a ‘post’ so that it is easy to find in the future. You can find links to this page and all of the other pages including links and lists at the top of the site along the grey bar.
It was good to see a lot of interest in the quad letter domains up for grabs last night at the Namepros Live Auction. With over 130 bidders ‘in the room’ it was a good turnout although this meant it was hard to snag an absolute bargain but there was still some good deals available.
A thread started at Namepros a few days ago certainly sparked up some controversy as to whether the letter ‘Y’ is actually a vowel. Its interesting to gain an insight into the variety of assumptions people have as this has the potential to affect the sale of any of your domain names that contain the letter especially if it is a CVCV combination.
Sitting in traffic a few days ago, initially I was oblivious to what was staring me in the face while I idly tapped along to music on the steering wheel. It was then that I had the idea of publishing evidence of four letter domains in use by end users when I noticed that the company van in front of me was utilising a quad letter domain!
I have observed some excellent examples of quad letter domains being used by end users recently so I have created a new catagory called ‘Spotted’. On my travels or even when I am simply online I aim to record and publish evidence of four letter domains being put to good use by end users.
