The latest price guide from 4 Letter Noob is out and it brings with it more bad news for quad letter domain investors… or does it? Although the minimum wholesale price has plummeted a further 24% to just $25 I am a strong believer that patience is a virtue and the future holds much promise.
I entered this market in November last year with a view to seeing it through to whatever end may present itself in two years time. I’m prepared for anything and I will be renewing my stock because the fact remains, we are still at the very beginning of this new niche domain market.
Reece’s price guide has a massive influence over the LLLL.com market and I believe this latest entry will produce two results. Firstly the short term investors will turn their backs, release stock and bail out, selling their domains at low prices to cut and run. Secondly it will produce cheap domains for long term investors to seize and hold. This is certainly something I will be doing as I believe there is still time for money to be made in this market if you have the courage and patience to weather the storm.
I have no idea how this market is going to pan out. It may plummet and fizzle out, it may recover and deliver the rewards everyone is hoping for. What I will be able to say is that I took part, persevered and saw it through to the end, no matter what the final result something many people did when LLL.com’s where first bought out.
I recommend reading the latest two post at 4 Letter Noob entitled ‘Portrait of a Crashing LLLL.com Market‘ and ‘R-I-S-K and the Future of LLLL.coms‘. There are some very strong opinions from both sides of the fence and some very informed insights to take on board.

The internet is still growing and so will the demand for domain names.
As the availability of generic domains decreases we should see increased prices for four letter domains and short domains in general.
Four letter domains offer the opportunity to develop sites with short memorable domain names at relatively more reasonable prices.

I totally agree with you Raymond and many segments of the domain market are still very fluid. And yes, I think domainers should take a more active role in developing their assets and with four letter domains it is even easier to create a site with content in many areas when compared with two or three word domains that are tied down to a particular niche.

Agree, it’s insane to sell any medium or lower quality LLLL.com now. There are other buy-outs and niches to dig that can cover costs of those expiring LLLL.com come this November… at least that’s my aim. I’ve read too many posts by veteran domainers who let their LLL.com go cheap years ago and now wish they had them back…

That’s exactly right Jason, and I have heard the very same stories, I’m not going to duck out of this niche considering the effort I have put in and then be disappointed when the market picks up again having sold my stock at undervalued prices.
